"webpass" as follows:
pluto: {1} : webpass
Welcome to WebPASS v1.0
WebPass automatically installs "password protection" on a sub-directory
of your server so that anyone access that page/directory would need a
userid/password pair.
For example, selecting the directory [/www/client/] would ensure that
anyone accessing http://www.yourdomain.com/client would require
an userid/password to access that directory and whatever beyond it.
Enter directory to password protect: /www/roger
The directory [/usr/home/webvis/www/roger] does not exist.
Do you wish to create it ? [Y/N]: y
Password protecting directory...
Done...!
The directory [www/roger] is now password-protected.
To manage this password file, just point your browser to this address:
http://www.webvisions.com/roger/cgi-bin/webpass.cgi
and logon with the following master user id/password pair:
Login: root
Password: temp
Using WebPass
The above example password protects the directory www.webvisions.com/roger
and beyond. To create a separate set of passwords for a sub-directory
under www.webvisions.com/roger, simple run WebPASS again.
WebPASS will also create a "cgi-bin" in each directory and place a copy of "webpass.cgi" in this directory.
WebPASS will also create an userid/password pair above that allows system managers to access
"webpass.cgi" to add, delete, list users as well as change user passwords. Note that this login "root" is
special and cannot be deleted. It is also the only login that can access "webpass.cgi".
There is no limit to the number of password protected directories you can have apart from your disk quota.
Each directory can have its own "root" administrator and users.
