Q. What do I need to do to enable this upgrade ?

A. This upgrade will be conducted on a server by server basis. Your data will be backed up before conversion of data formats to v3 takes place.

Upon conversion, you'll be able to login to your new WebMail V3 via the same URL. Backups will be kept for 2 weeks before we remove them.

Q. Can I stick to the old Webmail v2 ?

A. No. We encourage all customers to upgrade to the new system.

Q. Are there any features that WebMail v3 does not have compared to WebMail v2?

A. Yes, the parent-child email account system is not available in WebMail v3 as it is rarely if ever used. For customers who use this feature, you can now define distribution lists and define different groups of email accounts instead.

Forwarding of emails or sending a copy to sent folder also includes the original attachment, a feature *many* customers have asked for.

Q. Is there a demo of WebMail v3 available for customers to get used to the new interface ?

A. Yes. The URL is as follows : http://wmtrial.webvis.net/mywebmail/

  • Input the login details of a currently active email account to log in (the details required are the login, password, your POP mail server).
  • This URL should be treated as a TRIAL interface only and should not be used to store your emails
  • Mails that are downloaded into the Inbox will not be saved after you log out.

For customers who prefer the old interface, you can choose the "Marble" Templates which looks similar to the old interface.

Q. How do I access my new WebMail v3 ?

A. There is no difference or URLs to accessing WebMail v3. You can access WebMail via:

  1. http://www.yourdomain.com/mywebmail/ *or*
  2. http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/webmanager/webmail.cgi

Q. Will my folders be migrated over ?

A. Yes, every folder except for Trash will be migrated over. However, please note that certain key folders have been renamed in WebMail v3. they are:

  1. New Mail will now be known as Inbox
  2. Trash Can will now be known as Trash
  3. Copies to self will now be known as Sent Items
  4. (new) will now be known as Drafts
Your data in these folders will also be migrated to these new folders :
  1. New Mail -> Old Inbox
  2. Trash Can is NOT migrated over
  3. Copies to self -> Sent Items
  4. (new) -> Drafts

Note: If you have special arrangements not to delete mails on exit, please inform us prior to migration.

Q. Will my personal settings (e.g. filtering rules) be migrated over to WebMail V3 ?

A. Yes, most personal settings are migrated over.

However, since some key folders have been renamed (see above), if you have rules that routed data to these folders, you will have to modify the rule and correct these folder names.

Q. Will current custom templates be migrated over ?

A. No, the old templates will not work with WebMail v3. If you prefer to run your own templates, you can email support@webvisions.com after the upgrade and request for a customized template for WebMail v3. Our engineers will setup a customized template with a vanilla set of template files (xhtml like interface) for your own editing purposes. This new template can be accessed via Template Set 6 and is called "Custom".

Q. There is a bulletin feature in WebMail v3. Why can't I send bulletins ?

A. Only webmaster@yourdomain.com can send bulletins.
